C is for Cookie

I'd like to take a moment to talk about my favorite food. Chocolate Chip Cookies. I know, how boring? I love all kinds of food, love eating at nice restaurants and know all sorts of fancy terms to describe the colorful matter that we dress up to send down our digestive track. But I love chocolate chip cookies the bestest. :) I have realized this because I gave up dairy for Lent. Not really ALL dairy, just "dairy I can see." Meaning, I can have bread, but not put any more butter on it. I gave up cheese, milk in my cereal, butter to cook my eggs with, yogurt, cheesecake...etc. And this was hard. But really not as bad as I thought, and there's only one week left. However, when I was thinking, "You know, I could really gave up dairy completely..." the moment where I connected that I would have to say goodbye to my almost daily chocolate chip cookie....that was a rough moment. This, I know, is sad. I could live easily without any other form of chocolate, and without most baked goods, but I would have trouble with the c.c. cookie. Maybe it's the number of C's in the word, a lot of things I love start with C:

  • Carol (my mom)
  • Cats, specifically, calico cats
  • Chinese Checkers - I would like to point out another moment of revelation I had about Chinese Checkers this weekend - it is the only game I can think of that works just as good with 3 people as it does with 2! In fact, it can even be more fun that way. They should rename it "Third Wheel". Every couple should be required to own it so there is something to play when a single person comes over. Definitely on my list of favorite things.
  • Cars - I love to drive. I like fast cars. No, I'm not 'into' cars like guys can be, but I admire from the periphery. I am excited about London and selling my car and using public transport, but I will miss the ability to randomly escape to another town or just drive around with my sunroof open on a beautiful day.
  • Clothes. There. I said it, I do like clothes and trying to looking nice. I'm still happy in a tee-shirt and jeans, and I still don't really like shopping, but if I could just have a perfect wardrobe dumped into my closet, I can no longer deny how thrilled I would be.
  • Cat-naps. Yes, pathetic excuse to disguise 'nap' as a word that starts with C, but I do love imitating my cat and curling up in the sun on a Sunday and falling asleep for a few minutes...or hours, as I just did. :D
I may think of more today, that was a fun trip back to elementary school and brainstorming sessions for writing. :)

I remember one year my mom decided to give up ice cream for lent. In her rules, which I'd never heard of before, you were allowed to indulge in whatever you'd given on, on sunday. So she made a point of eating ice-cream on sundays, b/c she could and it was otherwise forbidden.

The funny thing is my mom never really had ice-cream all that often to begin with, and now with the sunday rule she was probably consuming more ice-cream per week than she would have if she hadn't "given up" ice-cream.
